Saka Mikami Appears at Kodansha House NYC in October

Kodansha USA Publishing will host manga creator Saka Mikami at its Kodansha House pop-up in New York City on October 10 and 11. The event itself returns to 508 West 37th Street from October 9 through October 18, as announced by the publisher on Thursday.

A Q&A session and signing with Mikami is set for October 10, followed by an additional signing on October 11. Tickets for both events will be allocated via a random drawing on the official kodanshahouse.com website. According to the source, the application period for the drawing opened on September 3 and closes on September 10 at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

Event Details and Series Context

The pop-up event coincides with New York Comic Con, which will be held at the nearby Javits Center from October 8 to 11. Mikami is the creator of the romance manga The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, which Kodansha USA is currently releasing in English.

The publisher describes the story's premise. Chidori High is a boys' school for low-achieving students, situated next to the elite Kikyo Girls' High. Second-year student Rintarō, who has a tough appearance but a gentle nature, works at his family's pastry shop. There he meets and quickly bonds with a girl named Kaoruko. Their peaceful connection is disrupted when Rintarō learns Kaoruko is a Kikyo student-a fact she seems to underestimate as a significant social obstacle. The narrative follows their attempt to handle a relationship despite the traps set by their classmates.

Manga and Anime Release Timeline

Saka Mikami first launched the manga on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket website in October 2021. In Japan, the 23rd compiled volume was published on June 9. The English-language release has reached its 14th volume, which shipped on August 11. The 15th English volume is scheduled for release on October 13.

The series received a television anime adaptation, which premiered in Japan in July 2025. The anime began streaming on Netflix in Japan on July 6, 2025, and in Southeast Asia a week later on July 13. A global rollout on Netflix followed, with the series becoming available outside Japan and Southeast Asia on September 7, 2025.

Previous Kodansha House Events

This is not the first creator event for the Kodansha House pop-up initiative. Earlier this year, the West Coast debut in Los Angeles's Little Tokyo neighborhood from July 2-12 featured Blue Lock creators Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura, alongside Witch Hat Atelier creator Kamome Shirahama.
