Yaiba: Samurai Legend Anime Season 2 Premieres January 9

The second season of the Yaiba: Samurai Legend anime will premiere on January 9, 2027. It will air on YTV, NTV, and their affiliated stations every Saturday at 5:30 p.m. JST, according to the show's official website.

The announcement was made on Saturday alongside a new key visual. The core production staff from the first season is returning for this new installment. Takahiro Hasui is back as director at Wit Studio, with animation cooperation from Studio Kurm.

Series composition is again handled by Tōko Machida. Yoshimichi Kameda returns as character designer and chief animation director, while Takeshi Maenami resumes his role as sub-character designer and main animator. Composers Yutaka Yamada and Yoshiaki Dewa are also returning, as is sound director Haru Yamada and animation producer Maiko Okada.

Several other staff members are confirmed for the new season. Some are returning, while others are new additions to the team.

Broadcast History and Streaming

The first season of the anime debuted in April 2025. It occupied the 5:30 p.m. Saturday timeslot on YTV and NTV, leading directly into Detective Conan at 6:00 p.m. This pairing created a "Gōshō Aoyama Hour," featuring anime adaptations of two works by the same manga creator. The series' second cour began in June 2025.

Internationally, the anime streams on Netflix in North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand. It is also available on Hulu in the United States. Viz Media holds the license for the series.

Story and Source Material

Viz Media's description outlines the story. Yaiba Kurogane trains in the jungle to become a samurai. He later returns to Japan and lives with the Mine family, whose daughter Sayaka is often bewildered by his behavior. A confrontation at school with kendo expert Takeshi Onimaru leads to the awakening of two ancient supernatural swords: the Fujinken (Wind God's Sword) and the Raijinken (Thunder God's Sword).

The anime is based on the manga by Gōshō Aoyama, the creator of Detective Conan. The original Yaiba manga was serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday from September 1988 to December 1993. It concluded with 24 compiled volumes. A previous 52-episode anime adaptation aired from April 1993 to April 1994. Viz Media is also publishing the manga in English.
