Though I Am an Inept Villainess Second Cour Details Revealed

The anime Though I Am an Inept Villainess will return with its second cour in January 2027. The new season will move into The First Royal Outing arc, taking the story beyond the inner court.

The series is a body-swap fantasy adapted from Satsuki Nakamura's light novel series. It follows Kou Reirin, a beloved imperial consort candidate, and her rival Shu Keigetsu, who is disliked within the palace. Their lives were upended when their bodies were switched. The first cour aired from July to September 2026.

Plot centers on Harvest Festival ritual and body swap chaos

The upcoming cour follows Reirin and Keigetsu as they navigate a cursed disturbance during the Harvest Festival ritual. The event is held in the southern lands ruled by the Shu clan, where the Crown Prince and Maidens wish for a bountiful harvest. Keigetsu is responsible for preparing the festival despite pressure, as she has no consort to act as her guardian.

Seasons pass, and the story is set in early autumn. Reirin supports Keigetsu during the ritual, thrilled about her first royal outing. Upon arrival, an unforeseen accident occurs, interrupting the ritual. Keigetsu’s spell runs out of control due to agitation, causing another body swap with Reirin.

The situation takes an unexpected turn. A new mastermind sneaks in to frame Keigetsu. In the confusion following the body swap, Reirin is abducted. Her two overprotective brothers, Kou Keikou and Kou Keishou, become involved as they try to find out who is behind the incident.

New voice cast and creative team details revealed

The animation is produced by studio Doga Kobo. Mitsue Yamazaki directs the anime, with Yoshiko Nakamura in charge of series composition. Ai Kikuchi illustrates the character designs. The main cast from the first cour returns, with Manaka Iwami as Kou Reirin and Natsumi Kawaida as Shu Keigetsu.

Three new cast members join for the second cour. Their roles and voice actors are detailed below.

Key visual and promotional updates released

A new key visual for the second cour has been revealed by Toho Animation. It features character visuals for the three newly announced voice actors. The anime previously revealed an epilogue visual featuring Kou Reirin and Shu Keigetsu.

The light novel source material was first published online on Shosetsuka ni Naro in July 2020. Ichijinsha released the print edition in December 2020, featuring illustrations by YukiKana. A manga adaptation illustrated by Ei Ohitsuji began serialization in Monthly Comic Zero Sum around the same time as the print edition release.

The second cour will adapt The First Royal Outing arc, where Reirin and Keigetsu face a curse-induced disturbance during the Harvest Festival ritual.
