The anime 'Though I Am an Inept Villainess' will return for its second cour in January 2027. Toho announced the premiere window alongside new cast members, a key visual, and plot details for the upcoming story arc titled 'The First Royal Outing'.
Three new voice actors are joining the cast for the continuation of the series. Their characters are deeply involved in the new arc's plot.
According to the source, Unran becomes "an important figure as the story expands." Character visuals for these new additions were also released.
The First Royal Outing Arc
The new cour will adapt 'The First Royal Outing' arc. The story picks up after the initial disturbances caused by a curse in the inner court have settled. Protagonists Reirin and Keigetsu, having swapped bodies, have begun to understand each other and a friendship is budding.
The season shifts to early autumn. The Crown Prince and the Maidens are set to travel to the southern lands ruled by the Shu clan for the Harvest Festival ritual. Keigetsu, under pressure as the host with no consort as a guardian, continues her preparations. Reirin supports her while being excited for her first royal outing.
A Ritual Gone Wrong
Disaster strikes upon their arrival. An unforeseen accident interrupts the ritual. An agitated Keigetsu's spell runs out of control, causing her to swap bodies with Reirin once again. Amid the confusion, the post-swap Reirin is abducted.
The situation takes an unexpected turn with the involvement of Reirin's two overprotective brothers, Keikou and Keishou. The plot will revolve around a new mastermind who is sneaking in to frame Keigetsu. Toho's synopsis promises "the gratifying tale of switched fates" continues in this second act.
Series Background
Produced by Toho under its TOHO animation label, the series is described in a press release. The story begins as maidens from the Five Clans battle for the Crown Prince's heart. The jealous Keigetsu uses forbidden magic to swap bodies with the beloved Reirin.
Switching places does not bring Keigetsu happiness. Her new body's ill health leaves her hanging on the verge of death. Meanwhile, Reirin, now wearing the face of a scorned outcast, must answer for Keigetsu's crimes in a dangerous trial. The upcoming cour will continue this tale of swapped identities and court intrigue.
