The fantasy anime 'The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life' will begin its broadcast on October 6, 2026. According to the series' official website, the announcement came with a new main trailer and key visual.
Produced by Studio P.A.WORKS, the story follows Rein Garland, an enchantment mage. After being expelled from his guild despite years of service enhancing their equipment, Rein reclaims every enchantment he placed on his former comrades' gear. He then start a new journey to discover his abilities' true potential.
New Cast Additions
The production committee confirmed three new cast members for the upcoming cour. Takumi Yamazaki will voice Donguri, Margaret's pet dog. Taiten Kusunoki is cast as Barios, the guild master of the Fangs of the King Beast who expels the protagonist. Megumi Toyoguchi will play Glenda, the guild's vice master.
They join a previously announced voice cast led by Daiki Yamashita as protagonist Rein Garland. The full announced cast is listed below.
Production Team and Theme Song
Shu Honma is directing the anime at P.A.WORKS. Yoko Yonaiyama is handling series composition. Character design and co-chief animation direction is led by Tadahito Kiyosawa, working alongside Masami Gohda, who also handles gag and sub-character designs. The opening theme song will be performed by the band sumika.
The anime will adapt the manga version illustrated by Gyomuyomochi, which the source notes is significantly different from the original light novels. The English-language manga is available on K-Manga, which describes the protagonist's quest as a "cheat-tier journey from the most common of common origins."
Source Material and Studio Context
The story originated as a web novel by Asa Rokushima, which began serialization on Shosetsuka ni Naro in January 2021. Kodansha later published two light novel volumes with illustrations by Kisui in 2022. The manga adaptation by Mochi Gyomuyo launched in Shonen Magazine R in October 2021, moved to Monthly Maga Kichi in February 2023, and is also available on Comic Days and Magazine Pocket.
Studio P.A.WORKS' recent adaptation work includes Dealing with Mikadono Sisters Is a Breeze and Skip and Loafer. The studio's founder, Kenji Horikawa, has previously expressed concern about the industry's focus, stating, "if the current situation continues, I feel a sense of crisis that even if we all want to, we might forget how to make an original work." The studio's latest original work was last season's Dusk Beyond the End of the World.
