Attack on Titan Returns with 2026 Theatrical Re-releases

The Attack on Titan franchise is planning a major return starting in 2026, three years after its anime finale. September 9 will be formally recognized as 'Attack on Titan Day' by the Japan Anniversary Association.

Kodansha has lined up a slate of 99-themed events to celebrate. This includes unlocking the first 99 manga chapters for 99 hours, launching exclusive new merchandise, and hosting a cast livestream with fresh reveals. The biggest news, however, is the franchise's return to the big screen with two compilation films.

Theatrical Re-releases Set for 2026 and 2027

To kick off the celebrations, the compilation film Attack on Titan Part 1: Guren no Yumiya is heading back to Japanese theaters on October 23, 2026. This is not a simple re-release. The movie will be presented in premium formats including ScreenX, 4DX, and ULTRA 4DX.

Then, in 2027, the franchise's cinematic finale, Attack on Titan: The Last Attack, will receive the same premium format treatment. This will mark the first-ever immersive ScreenX release for Eren's apocalyptic conclusion.

The celebration extends beyond theaters. The franchise has launched a dedicated YouTube channel for exclusive special features and limited-time anime streams. Season 1 is currently being broadcast every Wednesday, though the livestream is locked to viewers in Japan. Meanwhile, the official Magapoke app is unlocking the first 99 chapters of the manga for free for exactly 99 hours.

Creator Hajime Isayama Shares Personal Update

Series creator Hajime Isayama contributed a new commemorative illustration of Eren and Levi for the anniversary. He also shared a personal update, revealing he has recently developed a 'massive addiction to rom-com manga'. Isayama mentioned catching Spider-Man 4 (Brand New Day) in theaters, noting his satisfaction with the neighborhood hero 'somehow keeps peaking with every new installment'.

New Game and Franchise Details

The gaming side of the franchise is also active. Koei Tecmo's Attack on Titan 3 has dropped a new key visual featuring Eren, Levi, Mikasa, and Armin in their Final Season designs. The game will feature a brand-new opening animation produced by MAPPA before launching across multiple platforms on December 10.
