The anime adaptation of the manga 'The Fake Alchemist' has revealed its main production team and voice cast. The series will be animated by studio Passione, with Youhei Matsuoka and Miyari Nemoto leading the voice cast.
The television anime adaptation of 'The Fake Alchemist' has confirmed its core creative team and leading voice actors. Based on the manga by Jirō Sugiura and Umemaru, the project is moving forward under animation studio Passione, though a broadcast date remains unannounced.
The source material, also known as 'Nisemono no Renkinjutsushi', began as a web comic on pixiv in February 2020. Kadokawa later serialized it on ComicWalker and its KadoComi website in June 2023. The fifth compiled volume was published in Japan on February 20, and the series is ongoing. Kadokawa describes the manga as an indie hit, with its commercial edition surpassing one million copies in Japan. It also ranked 12th in the web manga category of the Next Manga Award 2022.
The story is set in the city-state of Orichalconia. It follows Paracelsus, a reincarnated alchemist hiding his extraordinary 'cheat skills'. He forms a contract with Nora Petan, a shaman slave-girl. Their rescue attempt of an elf named Coco, who has lost all four limbs and five senses, escalates into a large-scale conflict involving alchemy, sorcery, space, and gods.
Production team and studio
Studio Passione, known for recent anime productions, is handling the animation. The directorial duties are split, with Takeo Takahashi serving as chief director and Hijiri Sanpei as director. Series composition and scripts are managed by Kenta Ihara. Yuka Takashina is designing the characters, and Luke Standridge is composing the music.
Voice cast
The two main protagonists have been cast. Veteran voice actor Youhei Matsuoka will play the lead role of Paracelsus. Miyari Nemoto, a relative newcomer, has been cast as Nora Petan, the shaman who partners with him.
English release and promotional rollout
Yen Press licensed the manga for an English-language release in August 2025. The publisher releases the series digitally, with print volumes following. The second English print volume is scheduled for release on June 23. A teaser promotional video for the anime adaptation was unveiled on a Friday, according to an official press release and website update. The announcement has generated discussion among fans online. One commenter remarked, "Calling it out for what it is? So be it then."
