Code Geass Star Chaser Aspal Teaser Trailer Reveals 2027

The official teaser trailer for Code Geass Star Chaser Aspal was streamed on the franchise’s YouTube channel, confirming key staff and a 2027 premiere. The trailer dropped on September 26, 2026. It is a completely original production, not a recap, remake, or sequel to the previous series R2. Original creators Gorou Taniguchi and Ichirou Ookouchi are back as the franchise’s originators for this project.

Sunrise is handling the animation production. The studio is credited with the original concept, planning, and production. The anime was unveiled as a major part of the franchise's ongoing 20th-anniversary celebrations.

Creative Team and Production Details

Kazuya Nomura is directing the series. His previous directorial work includes Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie and both seasons of Moriarty the Patriot. Mado Nozaki, author of the light novel Hello World, is in charge of series composition and scripts.

Character designs are being handled by Rolua, the illustrator for the Yūsha Party kara Tsuihō Saretako light novels. Mecha design is under the supervision of Yoshi, who is working under the new designation 'Agarmatha'. Junbun Lin, known for concept art on Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury - Prologue, is in charge of background and special effects. The title logo was designed by Ichinogi.

A 20th Anniversary Celebration

The new anime is a centerpiece of the Code Geass 20th anniversary project. Other announced elements include a stage play and an exhibition. The stage play, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion - Seido ni Jyunzuru Kishi 2, will run in Osaka from January 23-25 and in Tokyo from January 29-February 1.

A 20th Anniversary Exhibition will open in Tokyo in September 2026 before moving to Osaka in November 2026. The franchise had announced in December 2024 that several new works were in production, but details on Star Chaser Aspal had been quiet for months until this trailer.

The Code Geass Legacy

The original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion television series premiered in 2006, with a sequel series following in 2008. The franchise has since expanded with manga, original video anime like the five-part Code Geass: Akito the Exiled, and theatrical films.

The compilation film trilogy began in 2017, followed by the 2019 sequel film Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection. Producer Kōjirō Taniguchi stated at the time that the film was "'phase 1' of a 10-year plan for new content in the Code Geass franchise." The most recent release was Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, which played in four theatrical parts in 2024 before streaming as a weekly series.

Star Chaser Aspal is the next step in that long-term plan. It is expected to expand the wider Code Geass universe with its own independent story. The anime is set to premiere in 2027 as a completely original TV anime expanding the Code Geass universe.
