Production company Twin Engine announced on Thursday that a sequel to the Nippon Sangoku television anime is in production. The original series, produced by Studio Kafka, began airing on April 7 and was streamed by Amazon's Prime Video service.
According to a press release, the anime adapts Ikka Matsuki's post-apocalyptic drama manga. Matsuki began serializing the manga on the MangaONE app and website in November 2021. Shogakukan published the seventh compiled volume on April 10.
Story Synopsis
The story is set in a future where Japan's modern civilization is forgotten. Ravaged by civil war and technological collapse, the nation has regressed into a post-Meiji era society. It is now divided into three imperial territories: Yamato, Buo, and Seii.
The protagonist is 15-year-old literature enthusiast Aoteru Misumi. He dreams of restoring the culture and technology that once made his country proud. Initially reluctant to act, a tragic event drives him to head for Osaka to enlist in the army. His goal is to eventually unite the country.
Osaka has become a crime-ridden city. There, Aoteru almost loses his life. He encounters another ambitious young man named Yoshitsune Asama, who shares his dream. The pair team up, combining Aoteru's strategic mind with Yoshitsune's masterful swordsmanship. They start a journey to restore Japan's former glory.
