The enhanced Dragon Ball Super: Beerus series will stream on Crunchyroll with subtitles starting October 11. It will also air on Fuji TV that same day, with Netflix following in the U.S. On October 17.

Crunchyroll announced it will simultaneously stream the series in Japanese with English subtitles across multiple regions. The rollout includes the United States, Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Episodes will be available on the platform almost a week before they debut on Netflix.

Regional rollout and platform specifics

Crunchyroll's announcement covers only subtitled episodes and makes no mention of an English dub. In Japan, the series will stream on Amazon Prime Video and U-NEXT 30 minutes after its Fuji TV broadcast, at 12:15 a.m. JST. Netflix is listed to start streaming in selected areas on October 14, with its U.S. Premiere set for October 17.

The series takes over the timeslot previously held by One Piece, which aired its final episode for the year on September 27. It begins airing on Fuji TV and its affiliates on October 11 at 11:15 p.m. JST.

Creative team and production enhancements

Toei Animation produces the series, which draws directly from creator Akira Toriyama's original story and designs. The project is an extensive reimagining. Akio Iyoku stated, "the work started a few years ago and is an 'enhanced' edition of the Dragon Ball Super anime." The official announcement details new cuts, revised scenes, complete re-rendering of all footage, newly recorded dubbing with added score and sound effects, and full story reconstruction.

Key returning staff include Kōichi Yamadera reprising his role as Beerus. The production team is led by several veterans.

New theme songs will accompany the series. MEGATERA・ZERO performs the opening theme 'ONOGAMI', while VK Blanka performs the ending theme 'Kan Peki No Peki'.

Story context and franchise significance

Set several years after the battle against Majin Buu, the story finds Earth at peace. Beerus, the God of Destruction, awakens from a long sleep. He hears rumors of a Saiyan who defeated Frieza and appears before Goku. This encounter puts Earth in grave danger and leads to a cosmic battle.

The Beerus arc, first introduced in the 2013 film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, marked a turning point for the franchise. It introduced the God of Destruction Beerus, the angel Whis, and Goku's Super Saiyan God form. The arc expanded the series' lore by introducing gods and angels overseeing the multiverse and dramatically raised the power ceiling. Beerus became a fan favorite for his mix of laid-back whimsy and terrifying power.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus will be the fourth time fans experience this Battle of Gods storyline, following the original film and its adaptations in the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga. The staff stated the anime is set to begin anew as Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. The first episode will screen in advance at the Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Special Panel at New York Comic Con on October 8.
