We Are Aliens Anime Film Adds More Cast Members

The official website for the We Are Aliens anime film has announced more cast members for the upcoming film.

The new cast members include Gaku Sano as Seiya Toda, a friend of the main character Tsubasa, Reika Ōzeki as young Seiya, Arisa Sasaki as Elmo Matsushita, a friend of Toda, and Edo Harumi as a calligraphy teacher.

We Are Aliens centers on the story of two boys, Tsubasa and Gyōtarō, who became close friends in elementary school but were driven apart by jealousy and misunderstandings. Years have passed, and the two boys have gone in different directions in life. However, when memories from their past come back, they must face what happened between them years ago.

The film stars Ryōta Bandō as Tsubasa, and Amane Okayama as Gyōtarō, when both characters are young adults. Child actors Yūto Maki and Tasuku Nakagome voice Tsubasa and Gyōtarō, respectively, when they were younger. Other cast members include Ten Yamasaki as Konatsu, and comedian Kemuri Matsui as Batahara.

The film's planner, scriptwriter, director, storyboard artist, and editor is Kōhei Kadowaki, who has also worked on the second season of BEASTARS and music videos for YOASOBI. The music for the film is composed by Yaffle, who has previously worked with artists such as Fujii Kaze and Kenshi Yonezu.

NOTHING NEW, the film's production company, has collaborated with French studio Miyu Productions on the production. Miyu Productions has worked on films such as Ghost Cat Anzu and A New Dawn.

The film will open in Japan on September 25 and has already screened at several film festivals, including the Directors' Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

The film's theme song "Sasakure" is performed by adieu.

The film's production costs were partially covered by a crowdfunding campaign launched by the staff in November. The campaign aimed to improve the quality of the work and distribute the film more widely, and exceeded its 8 million yen target, raising a total of 9,604,510 yen.

The film's sales company, CHARADES, has licensed the film to several distributors in Asia, including Hooray Films in Taiwan, Shaw Organisation in Singapore, Intercontinental Film Distributors in Hong Kong, and Sahamongkol Film in Thailand.

The We Are Aliens film has screened at several film festivals, including the Directors' Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
