Uoto Announces Two New Manga Series

Manga creator Uoto announced two new series on Friday and Saturday. The artist is best known for the acclaimed series 'Orb: On the Movements of the Earth.'

One new series, titled 'Hallucination Meat,' is scheduled to launch in Shogakukan's Weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine. Uoto stated the launch date is still to be determined but thinks it will be sometime this year. The creator teased the announcement with a diagram of a methane molecule.

Collaboration with Kyō Yoneshiro

The second project is a collaboration. Uoto will partner as the story writer with artist Kyō Yoneshiro on a series called 'Test Taker/Cheaters.' This title is slated for Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine. Uoto reportedly thinks its launch will be at the start of next year, though the date is also not finalized. Uoto's Previous Work and Accolades

Uoto launched the 'Orb: On the Movements of the Earth' manga in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in September 2020, ending it in April 2022. Shogakukan published the eighth and final compiled volume in June 2022. The series is licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.

With this work, Uoto became the youngest ever winner of the Grand Prize for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize awards at 24 years old in April 2022. The manga was also nominated for the 68th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2022 and ranked at #22 in Da Vinci's 'Book of the Year' manga list the same year. A 25-episode anime adaptation premiered in October 2024, with episodes streaming on Netflix and ABEMA.

Uoto's other notable work, '100 Meters,' inspired an anime film that premiered in Japan in September 2025. GKIDS screened the film in North American theaters in October 2025.
