Street Fighter Live-Action Film Trailer Out

Paramount Pictures released a new trailer for Legendary Entertainment's live-action Street Fighter film on Tuesday. The movie is set to open in theaters on October 16.

According to a description from Paramount, the story is set in 1993. Estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are recruited by the mysterious Chun-Li for the World Warrior Tournament. This event is described as a brutal clash. However, a deadly conspiracy behind the tournament forces the two to confront each other and their pasts.

Cast and Characters

The film features a large ensemble cast drawn from actors, musicians, and professional wrestlers. Andrew Koji plays the lead role of Ryu. Noah Centineo portrays his rival, Ken Masters. Callina Liang plays Chun-Li, the character who recruits them.

Production and Distribution History

The project represents the first under a new multi-year distribution deal between Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment. The deal was signed in December, with Paramount handling worldwide distribution outside of China. Legendary Entertainment acquired the film and television rights to the Street Fighter franchise from CAPCOM in April 2023.

The production's path to the screen has seen several changes. Sony Pictures was originally slated to distribute the film. Under Sony, a March 20, 2026 release date was planned. Sony removed the film from its calendar in March 2025.

Directing duties also shifted. Brothers Danny and Michael Philippou were initially attached to direct but left the project to focus on their film Bring Her Back. Kitao Sakurai, known for The Eric André Show and Bad Trip, is now directing. Filming began in Australia in August 2025.

Previous Street Fighter Adaptations

The iconic fighting game series has inspired several live-action adaptations before. A 1994 film starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raúl Juliá. A separate spinoff, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li starring Kristin Kreuk, was released in 2009.

Machinima produced two live-action web series: Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist in 2014 and Street Fighter: Resurrection in 2016. A Street Fighter: World Warrior television series was reportedly planned in 2018 but did not move forward.

The franchise also has a notable anime history. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie was released in 1994. Discotek Media later released it on DVD and Blu-ray. Several other anime and animated series have been inspired by the games.

CAPCOM's most recent game, Street Fighter 6, launched in June 2023. It was released on Nintendo Switch 2 as a launch title in June 2025. The source for the new trailer is the Paramount Pictures YouTube channel.
