The anime will first debut on the ABEMA streaming service on September 30, before airing on television on the Tokyo MX and ABC TV channels on October 7. HIDIVE will stream the anime as it airs in Japan, and will screen the North American premiere of the new season on August 22 at Anime NYC. The trailer for the season has been released, featuring the opening theme song "Dream of Butterfly" performed by FZMZ, and the ending theme song "Baribari Buddy" performed by Hanabie. The anime's story follows a magical sword that is reincarnated as a sentient weapon with memories of his past life, but not his name. The sword saves a young beastgirl named Fran from a life of slavery, and together they embark on a journey to discover the sword's purpose. The anime's second season will feature the same cast as the first season, including Ai Kakuma as Fran, Shinichirō Miki as Master, and Yūma Uchida as Jean du Vix. Shinji Ishihira will return to direct the anime at C2C, with Takahiro Nagano writing and supervising the scripts. The series has a large team of staff members, including assistant director Kazunobu Shimizu, master design by Shinya Asanuma, and monster design by Chie Sakurai, Jumpei Mukai, and Shōta Yano. The light novel series was launched by Yuu Tanaka on the Shōsetsuka ni Narou website in October 2015, and Gentosha began publishing the series with illustrations by LLO in July 2016. Tomowo Maruyama launched a manga adaptation of the novels on Gentosha's Denshi Birz website in December 2016. Seven Seas Entertainment is releasing both the original light novels and Maruyama's manga adaptation in English. The Tensei Shitara Ken Deshita: Another Wish manga spinoff, launched by Hinako Inoue in June 2020, ended in its sixth compiled book volume in March 2023.
