Majo to Youhei Anime Adds Cast, Staff for Spring 2027

The television anime adaptation of Kaeru Chouhoukiteki's light novel Majo to Youhei (Witch and Mercenary) has announced additional cast and staff, a new visual, and its first promotional video. According to the official website, the series will premiere across 30 NTV stations and BS NTV in April 2027.

Yuri Noguchi, known for her role in Ryza no Atelier, will voice the character Isana Gayhone. Hiromu Mineta from Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru is cast as Alan Clows. Haruka Shiraishi, recognized for Clevatess, will play Elsia Armet.

Production Staff and Studio

Shinpei Ezaki, the director behind Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song, is helming the project at studio 8Bit. Daishirou Tanimura of Hell Mode fame is handling series composition. Character designs are being created by Keita Matsumoto, who also worked on Persona 5 the Animation: The Day Breakers.

The staff list includes several other key roles. Shingo Irie is assisting with series composition. Sub-character design is handled by Hideki Sakai, who also serves as a chief animation director alongside Keita Matsumoto and Sorato Shimizu. Monster design duties are shared by Wataru Inata and Ryou Hirata. Rei Ishizuka, the composer for Ayakashi Triangle, is creating the music.

Source Material and Publishing

The action fantasy novel began serialization on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in June 2021. Micro Magazine's GCN Bunko imprint started publishing the light novel with illustrations by Bench Kanase in May 2023. The source material has proven popular, with a reported cumulative circulation of 1.7 million copies.

The seventh volume went on sale on January 20. An eighth volume is scheduled for release on September 24. A manga adaptation by Makoto Miyagi began in Kodansha's Magazine Pocket service in January 2024. Kodansha published the manga's ninth volume on August 7.

For English-speaking audiences, Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the light novel in February 2024. The publisher released the first part of the sixth volume on April 28 and plans to publish the seventh volume on November 24. Kodansha publishes the manga digitally in English through its K Manga platform. Kodansha, founded in 1910, is a major Japanese publisher with a significant focus on manga through imprints like Kodansha Comics.

The new promotional video offers the first moving glimpse of the upcoming series. Majo to Youhei joins the lineup of isekai and fantasy titles typically broadcast in a standard cour season on Japanese networks like NTV.
