Junya Enoki on Voicing Jujutsu Kaisen's Yuji

Voice actor Junya Enoki, the voice of Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen, spoke about his role in an interview at Japan Expo Paris last July. The interview was conducted as part of the anime's fifth-anniversary celebrations.

Enoki explained that finding the balance between Itadori's courageous and relaxed personality felt natural. He stated that the character is already written that way, so he simply followed the story.

The Burden of Sukuna

Portraying Itadori's internal struggle with the cursed spirit Sukuna required a shift in approach. Enoki described Sukuna as the cause of all of Itadori's problems. He said the protagonist is enduring a tough situation and must remain cautious because he cannot trust the entity inside him. Even with this burden, Enoki emphasized the need to convey Itadori's underlying trust when interacting with friends like Megumi and Nobara.

Reflecting on his first impression, Enoki now sees Itadori as a character who has been through a lot. He expressed feeling sorry for him due to the difficult circumstances and deaths caused by Sukuna.

The Hardest Moment

For Enoki, the Shibuya Incident arc represented Itadori's most difficult moment. He stated that many people died, and Itadori believes it is his fault. Enoki admitted that when trying to put himself in the character's shoes, he could not bear the guilt and darkness.

If he could meet Itadori in real life, Enoki said he would hug him.

Other Roles and Favorites

When asked which other Jujutsu Kaisen character he would like to play, Enoki chose Toge Inumaki. His reason was practical. Inumaki does not talk much, whereas Itadori is always screaming, so the role would be easier on his throat.

Regarding music, Enoki named the ending song "more than words" as his favorite from the series. He said it represents how Itadori feels.

Discussing the new characters introduced in Season 3, Enoki highlighted Kirara. He finds the character's power interesting, unique, and complex. He also praised Kirara's cute visuals.

Recording Intense Scenes

Preparing for intense recording sessions, such as the courtroom battle with Hiromi Higuruma, involves a focus on internal conflict. Enoki approaches these scenes as a fight with himself, an internal dialogue.

A Message to Fans

In a final message to overseas fans, Enoki acknowledged the global love for Jujutsu Kaisen. He confirmed the team is currently working on the next season. "I'll do my best and scream a lot," he said.
