The anime Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia has unveiled the preview and synopsis for its twelfth and final episode. Titled "The Steppe, Ever Unchanging," the finale is scheduled to premiere on Saturday, September 12, according to a press release from the series' official website.
Finale Synopsis and Plot
The episode's synopsis reveals key developments. Moved by the protagonist Sitara, Sorghaghtani will refuse a proposed political marriage to Güyük. She then skillfully outmaneuvers Boraqchin, whose plan was to gain complete control over Tolui’s clan through this union. Meanwhile, Sitara continues her search for Töregene and finally finds a key clue. Concurrently, Ögedei summons Sitara and proposes a certain wager to her.
Series Background and Recognition
Based on Tomato Soup’s award-winning manga A Witch’s Life in Mongol, the anime is set during the 13th-century Mongol Empire. It follows Sitara, a young girl who survives a brutal fate by relying on knowledge rather than force. After losing everything to the empire’s expansion, she infiltrates the royal court seeking revenge, where her fate becomes intertwined with Töregene, a woman who harbors her own hatred toward the empire.
The series had already earned international recognition before its broadcast, receiving a selection in the Official Competition TV Films category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026. The original manga recently won the Grand Prize in the Comic Division at the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards.

Manga Source Material
Tomato Soup writes and draws the historical manga series A Witch’s Life in Mongol (Tenmaku no Jadugaru). It began serialization on Akita Shoten’s Souffle website in September 2021, with five volumes released as of April 2025. The manga earned first place in Takarajimasha’s “This Manga is Amazing! 2023” (Women’s Edition) and was ranked in the Manga Taisho Awards for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024). Yen Press has licensed the manga for English publication.
The official story begins with a young girl in the 13th-century slave markets of Iran. After losing her mother and her homeland, Sitara is taken in by a scholar named Fatima. Inspired by Fatima's son Muhammad, she dedicates herself to learning. Her peaceful life ends when the Mongol Empire, under Prince Tolui, conquers her city. Having lost everything, Sitara vows revenge against the empire.
